There are two types of herpes viruses - HSV-1 and HSV-2.   The herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) triggers infection around the mouth.  You will experience fever blisters and cold sores around your mouth.

On the other hand, HSV-2 herpes infection can be observed near the genital area. This type of herpes is sexually transmitted.

The symptoms may or may not show, but herpes simplex virus is highly contagious.
